Troopers: East Chatham man arrested on weapons charges

CHATHAM — An East Chatham man was arrested Wednesday and charged with multiple weapons-related felonies, New York State Police said Thursday.Following an investigation, Jeremiah Woodward, 44, of East Chatham, was arrested at approximately 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Woodward is charged with three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony.

HUDSON — Three of the former Democratic candidates defeated in June’s primary have dropped out of the race after previously being endorsed by the Working Families Party.Incumbent Common Council President Thomas DePietro and 3rd Ward Common Councilmember Shershah Mizan have officially ended their reelection bids, and 4th Ward Common Council Candidate Alexis B. Mill Street residents sue Hudson, planning board

HUDSON — A group of Mill Street residents has filed a lawsuit against the city and developers of a 70-unit housing project recently approved by the Hudson Planning Board.The lawsuit was filed in Columbia County Court on July 2, and accuses the city of violating state law when it entered into a contract with Kearney Realty & Development to sell the land to the developers for the project.

HUDSON — The former Brookwood psychologist accused of sexually assaulting residents at the facility pleaded guilty in Columbia County Court on Wednesday to one of the counts in her indictment.Maya Hayes, 46, was arrested April 12, 2024 and charged with 62 counts of third-degree criminal sexual act, as well as three counts of third-degree rape.

Germantown, New Lebanon voters OK school budgets

The two Columbia County school budgets that failed in last month's school board elections were approved by voters Tuesday night in the statewide budget revote. Germantown Central School District voters approved a $17.1 million budget by a vote of 525-344, or 60.4%. The district narrowly reached the supermajority vote required to pass the spending plan, which was required due to the district going over its allowed tax levy increase.

Farm to gift Hillsdale $20K to maintain gravel road

HILLSDALE — A gravel road in the town will be saved from being chip sealed thanks to a $20,000 gift from a local farm. The town board approved in March the controversial plan to chip seal two roads in the town, Appletree Lane and Texas Hill Road, to fully replace their existing loose gravel and dirt roads after a special public hearing where dozens of residents came out to voice their support and opposition to the planned road work.
